We offer a broad range of treatments, from the general to the specialist, and we believe all good dentistry should provide both health and cosmetic benefits. Find out more about what we do by clicking on the links below:
Helping our patients have healthy teeth and gums is at the heart of everything we do. We believe in a preventive approach to keep you healthy in preference to providing treatments. At the routine Dental Health Examination, we assess the health of your mouth in 13 different areas, including checking your risks of future gum inflammation and tooth decay, carrying out a mouth cancer screening and making recommendations for your homecare routine.
Our hygienists play an important role in patient care at The Bay Dental Practice. They will design a specific hygiene programme to match your needs and give you advice – whether it is to help with improvements to your diet or demonstrating up to date cleaning techniques and brushes to help reach those awkward spaces!
Also available are:
• advanced hygiene treatments for gums
• treatments for tooth sensitivity
• coatings [fissure sealants] on children’s teeth to protect them from decay
These all play an important part in restoring teeth and smiles. We have them made to our prescription by a local dental laboratory. The long-term success of crowns and veneers depends on the skill of the technician as well as very careful planning and placement by the dentist. At The Bay Dental you can count on our dentists and technicians working together for the best result.
Crown – A crown is a tooth-shaped ‘cap’ that fits over your tooth to protect and strengthen it.
Bridge – When you have a missing tooth, a bridge is recommended to fill the space. A crown is placed on a neighbouring tooth and used to hold the bridge in place.
Veneers – are thin facings that protect or improve the appearance of front teeth.
Many thousands of dental implants are placed every year in the UK to replace missing teeth. A dental implant consists of a titanium post which is placed in the jaw and integrates with the bone. Afterwards a crown is placed on the implant so it looks and functions just like a real tooth. Dentist Michael Adams carries out our dental implant placement.
Our patients’ dentures are made by clinical dental technician Tony Bonner. He pays great attention to the appearance and fit, so patients are happy with their appearance as well as their freedom to eat and smile. At The Bay Dental we make complete sets of dentures as well as partial dentures, to replace missing teeth.
Root canal treatment is a treatment to save diseased or infected teeth. Unless inflammation or infection are removed you may experience discomfort which could lead to an abscess and further pain. Dentist Dean Mooney carries out our root canal treatments and is equipped with a specialist operating microscope.
He cleans out the damaged tissue in the pulp and refills and reseals the roots of the teeth, preventing future infection and damage. Because the tooth will be fragile we recommend it is crowned afterwards to maintain strength.
Most teeth will benefit from tooth whitening, which is an effective way to brighten stained or discoloured teeth. The procedure is safe, simple, and more affordable than ever. For these reasons and more, whitening has become very popular. We recommend custom-made trays supplied by us with whitening gel which you use progressively over a few weeks until you reach the shade you are happy with.
We have solutions for chipped, stained, uneven, broken, crooked or missing teeth. Treatments might include tooth whitening, or teeth straightening, crowns or veneers to mask unsightly teeth, or a little cosmetic bonding – a reshaping of the teeth with natural tooth colour filling material. Some of these methods of improving smiles are very ‘minimal’ but highly effective. Dentures and dental implants can also be provided for cosmetic reasons and we provide both here.
